2. The party consisted of a loose coalition of eastern bankers, merchants, and industrials, and many owners of large southern plantations.
1860-1932 Democrats:
1. They opposed sectionalism and helped push the nations party politics back toward the economic arena.
2. Businesses supported these ideas.
1860-1932 Republicans:
1. The would act to advance the rights of African Americans.
2. They were supported by business and financial interests, and by farmers, laborers, and newly freed African Americans.
1932-1968 Democrats:
1. There goal was to restore the nations economic and social life.
2. The southerners, farmers and a big-city political organizations supported them.
1932-1968 Republicans:
1. They also had the goal to restore the nations economic and social life.
2. Northerners and Manufacturers supported these Republicans.
